Integrated Power Conditioning for Laser Diode Arrays

چکیده
For several years, the Laser Program at LLNL has been designing and building a variety of specialized compact laser systems 1. They offer extremely high energy densities for their size and are primarily used in medical and military applications where a high premium is placed on both reliability and compactness. These systems are based upon a 2 cm-x-2 em liquid cooled wafer (Fig. 1) that supports laser diode bars mounted along one edge. Depending upon the application, the laser diodes are fabricated to emit in the 640-nm to 970-nm range while being driven by electrical current pulses of 80-160 A. In some applications, their output is used either to directly irradiate an object or to pump a solid state rod or slab laser. These systems operate at high average power levels and require innovative modular cooling system in which the diode bars are mounted above a micro channel cooling strip2.

متن کاملTreatment of lentigines by a novel high power diode laser at 755 nm: a case report
The use of high-power diode laser with a wavelength of 755 nm is an effective and safe method for the correction and partial and/or total elimination of pigmented lesions, specifically solar lentigines. This wavelength has yet not been used in diode lasers to treat solar lentigines. Side effects are the usual ones, including darkening and scab formation. Our patient was a 40-year-old woman of C...
متن کاملUsing of Broadened Asymmetric Waveguide Structure for 980nm Diode Laser
Laser diode beam divergence is the main parameter for beam shaping and fiber optic coupling. Increasing the waveguide layer thickness is the conventional method to decrease the beam divergence. In this paper, the broadened asymmetric waveguide is introduced to decrease the divergence without increasing the optical power. The asymmetric waveguide was used to shift the vertical optical field to n...
متن کاملCharacterization of 808 nm Quasi-constant Wave Laser Diode Arrays
High-power laser diode arrays are used for a variety of space-based laser programs as an energy source for diode-pumped solid-state lasers. Specifically, 1064 nm Nd:YAG lasers require laser diode arrays emitting at a wavelength of 808 nm that operate at quasi-cw peak powers of 100 Watts per bar. Reliability and performance data is needed for these components; particularly for operation in a sat...
متن کاملDiode arrays are compact, high-power light dynamos
High-power laser-diode arrays, which are made of stacks of individual or multistripe laser diodes, or in some cases vertical-cavity surfaceemitting lasers (VCSELs), can put out watts to kilowatts of optical power for uses such as laser pumping, industrial heating, illumination, or as the input for fiber-optic direct-diode laser devices for materials processing or for medicine. Laser diodes typi...
